From Swartzs help in the development of the basic internet protocol RSS to his co-founding of Reddit, his fingerprints are all over the internet. But it was Swartzs groundbreaking work in social justice and political organizing combined with his aggressive approach to information access that ensnared him in a two-year legal nightmare. It was a battle that ended with the taking of his own life at the age of 26. Aarons story touched a nerve with people far beyond the online communities in which he was a celebrity. This film is a personal story about what we lose when we are tone deaf about technology and its relationship to our civil liberties.

Fort Tilden: New York Citys secluded seaside nirvana where, like flies to honey, Brooklyns hip millennial set flocks on sweltering weekend afternoons for unbridled summertime indulgence. Amidst the vexing stagnation of quarter-life crises, Allie (Clare McNulty) struggles to prepare for the Peace Corps, while Harper (Bridey Elliott) awaits checks from her father to fund her artistic dreams. But the two friends quickly shun responsibilities for the day when a pair of good-looking guys invites them along for a carefree Fort Tilden afternoon. As the two young women board their fixed-gear bicycles and embark on a lengthy journey to the beach, they quickly realize that, akin to their confusing, transitioning lives, they neither know where theyre going nor how they plan to get there.

The debut feature film of directors Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogersand showcasing the comedic versatility of McNulty and ElliottFORT TILDEN is a hilariously insightful and recognizable look at the consequences of extended adolescence.

The Independent Film Festival of Boston starts this coming Wednesday, 4/23 at the Somerville Theater and quickly spreads to the Brattle, Coolidge and UMass Boston.

I (Sean) highly recommend you see as many movies as you can during the festival… Â It is rare that a film festival of this quality and size is still so accessible by the average movie fan as opposed to industry insiders. Â I wrote this blog post a few years ago (and have updated it since) about my tips on best enjoyingÂ IFFBoston.

The SNFC always chooses on of the Sunday screenings during the festival as its film, and this year is no exception.Â This year we will be seeing FORT TILDEN at the Somerville Theatre. Â It is highly recommended that you purchase tickets in advance as the festival can get quite popular.

In The Wind Rises, Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the worlds most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japans plunge into war. Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, and grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo. Writer/director Hayao Miyazaki pays tribute to engineer Jiro Horikoshi and author Tatsuo Hori in this epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.

Undaunted by his advanced age or emphysema, Huston undertook a darkly comic mafia picture based on the novel by The Manchurian Candidate author Richard Condon. Patiently toying with elements of various famous gangster movies including his own Hustons unusual wandering path through the everyday lives of the Prizzi family is skillfully guided by the strangely endearing performances of Jack Nicholson as Charley Partanna the Prizzis naive hit man and Angelica Huston as his jilted former lover. When Charley falls in love with a beautiful stranger who is also in the business, he instigates a messy wave of double-crosses crossing over and back through absurdly sticky webs of organized deception. As if they operated a standard family business, Huston wryly explores the strength of their various bonds as well as the occupational hazards of their grisly vocations.

Brutal, sexy and bloody, the Hammer Horror films of the 1950s are legendary for their versions of classic monster stories filled with heaving bosoms and gushing veins. THE HORROR OF DRACULA is the first of many Dracula films in the Hammer oeuvre and it remains one of the best. The impeccably intimidating Christopher Lee stars as the titular Count while Peter Cushing embodies the erudite adventurer in his role as Draculas nemesis, Dr. Van Helsing.
