Join the Boston Sunday Night Film Club this Sunday, Dec 7th at 5:30p for The Babadook at the Brattle Theatre . Look for Sean wearing a nametag in the theatre lobby about 15 minutes before the film. As always, after the film we will descend on a local establishment for dinner/drinks/discussion.
Essie Davis (in a remarkable performance) plays the fragile Amelia, a woman who has been slowly unraveling since her husband died in a car crash while shuttling her to the hospital to have their first child. Now 6-years-old, her son, Samuel (Wiseman), is also highly strung and in continual terror of the imagined thing lurking under the bed or in the closet. All in his head or so the beleaguered Amelia believes. Meanwhile, a disturbing childrens book has mysteriously shown up on Sams shelf and, when they read it, it unlocks a terrifying force that neither of them will be able to control.
