Join the Boston Sunday Night Film Club this Sunday, Jul 9th at 5:30p for Lynch/Oz at the Brattle Theatre. Look for Sean wearing a nametag in the theatre lobby about 15 minutes before the film. As always, after the film we will descend on a local establishment for dinner/drinks/discussion.
Cinematic documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe (78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene) dives deep into the connections between the work of David Lynch and one of the most beloved films of all time, THE WIZARD OF OZ. Any cursory Lynch devotee will see the connections between his work and Victor Fleming’s classic but Philippe delves deeper with the aid of some of contemporary cinema’s most exciting voices. LYNCH/ OZ features narration and insights from film critic and podcaster Amy Nicholson plus filmmakers Rodney Ascher (Room 237), Karyn Kusama (The Invitation), Benson and Moorhead (Something in the Dirt), and David Lowery (The Green Knight). The piece-de-resistance for any underground film lover, however, has got to be the central section featuring the unmistakable John Waters, a longtime friend of Lynch.
