“Tokyo Pop” – Aug 27th

Join the Boston Sunday Night Film Club this Sunday, Aug 27th at 6pm for Tokyo Pop at the Brattle Theatre. Look for Sean wearing a nametag in the theatre lobby about 15 minutes before the film. As always, after the film we will descend on a local establishment for dinner/drinks/discussion.

Fed up with life in New York City, bleach-blonde rocker Wendy (Hamilton) spontaneously hops on a plane to Tokyo… only to find that her friend who lives there has moved, she has no money, and she doesn’t know the language. As luck would have it, one night she runs into Hiro (Yukai), a rock ‘n’ roller whose band is looking for their big break. They form a romantic and musical connection and together end up making a hit record. But Wendy soon begins to wonder whether life in Japan is really for her. This charmer of an American indie from Fran Rubel Kuzui (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) feels a little bit like Jim Jarmusch’s Mystery Train in reverse and features terrific footage of late-’80s Tokyo. Rediscovered and restored thanks to the efforts of IndieCollect! Brattle Debut!
